Class Standards

Class Standards - As of June 2024

Class standards listed below, are minimum requirements for Komyo ReikiDo classes. Duration of classes are not restricted & may be extended where necessary or broken down into increments to suit your timetable & teaching style as long as the minimum class time of each level is reached.

Official Komyo ReikiDo manuals are to be used for Komyo ReikiDo courses. Any additional techniques (that is, techniques not included in the manuals), would generally be considered non-Komyo ReikiDo or 'add ins'. If you are teaching 'add ins', please contact us.

Reiju or attunements must be given in person.  Komyo ReikiDo does not allow on-line Reiki classes with distant Reiju & will not recognise certificates issued by these classes.

Please note that the criteria below, may not reach the minimum requirements for your local Reiki Associations.  Please check with your association for teaching criteria, if any.  Reiki associations may have their preferred insurance providers, up to date information on local Government requirements for Complementary Therapists & their own criteria for practitioners/teachers.

After the first sitting of Shinpiden, a Shihan Candidate certificate will be issued. This certificate does not allow the student to teach. To teach KRD, a Shihan Candidate must attend a second in-person or online Shinpiden Seminar as a minimum. See below.

Shihan Candidate
First time sitting of Shinpiden must be in-person. Certificates will state that the person is a Shihan Candidate after the training. This is a non-teaching level.

  • Training with Inamoto Hyakuten Sensei will be conducted over 4 days. Fees to be determined by the host and agreed to by Inamoto Sensei.
  •  Training with certified KRD Shihans must be a minimum of 18 hours. Fees and timing determined by the certified Komyo ReikiDo Shihan. Hours may exceed the minimum.

Shihan Certification
After the second sitting of Shinpiden, the Shihan Candidate will become a certified Komyo ReikiDo Shihan, able to teach all levels of Komyo ReikiDo.

The second sitting is at a reduced fee. The second sitting of Shinpiden may be in-person or online. It is preferred that re-sitting Shinpiden classes are done in-person.  However, the online re-sitting option is on offer for those who are not able to travel to an in-person class.

Online Re-sit Certification (minimum 15 hours)
Training with Inamoto Hyakuten Sensei, the online Shinpiden training will be conducted over two and a half weekends, 9am to 12 noon Kyoto time. Each weekend of training will be a minimum of two months apart.

  • Shoden and Chuden          6 hours over 2 days
  • Okuden                                  6 hours over 2 days
  • Shinpiden (Reiju practice, Q&A)            3 hours

The fee of the each 6-hour training will be the same as the fee for the existing online Refreshers. The fee for the Shinpiden/Reiju practice will be half the cost of the existing online Refresher.

As with our policy, distant Reiju is not allowed so online Reiju practice will be demonstrated by the teacher with a pillow (or something similar) on a chair and the student 'shadowing' the teacher.

Training with Certified KRD Shihans, the online training will be at the discretion of the teacher and the timing and fees to be set by the teacher. The second sitting of Shinpiden will be at a reduced fee. Hours may exceed the minimum.

In-Person Re-Sit Certification (minimum 18 hours)
Training with Inamoto Hyakuten Sensei will be conducted over 4 days. Fees to be determined by the host and agreed to by Inamoto Sensei.

Training with certified KRD Shihans must be a minimum of 18 hours. Fees and timing determined by the certified Komyo ReikiDo Shihan. Hours may exceed the minimum.

Please note: It is encouraged that all certified Komyo ReikiDo Shihans attend an online Refresher yearly to keep their understanding of the Komyo ReikiDo system up-to-date. Online Refreshers for Okuden level and up, are not the same as resitting Shinpiden online. Refreshers are generally for refreshing & renewing Komyo ReikiDo teachings and not for Shihan certification.

Please note: Komyo ReikiDo practitioners, and teachers (Shihan) are required to follow the Komyo ReikiDo Code of Ethics & Komyo ReikiDo Codes of Practice.

October 2016
Komyo Reiki Kai changed its name to Komyo ReikiDo. Komyo Reiki Kai Shihans may operate under Komyo Reiki Kai but need to update to be Komyo ReikiDo Shihans and be able to advertise that they teach Komyo ReikiDo. They only need to update by sitting one online Refresher, but it is encouraged that they sit an in-person Shinpiden class. The KRK certificate plus a KRD Shinpiden/ Online Refresher attendance certificate indicates that a certified KRK Shihan is now a KRD Shihan.
